Multiples

Getting to the second orgasm. And maybe the third or fourth.

Sensitive Subjects

Right after the first orgasm, the clit is super sensitive. It turns out a large number of people think they or their partners can’t have multiple orgasms—because the things that feel good BEFORE may actually hurt AFTER that first orgasm.

Many realize they can have multiple orgasms by thinking about the body post-orgasm as completely different, with a new set of preferences and way more sensitivity.

Let’s say, for example, that what works for you or your partner before orgasm is up and down motions on the hood. Then after that first orgasm, that same motion hurts. Most women say they used to think, “Hey, a second orgasm just isn’t in the cards for me.”

This technique is to pretend that you or your partner woke up as someone else. Pretend the body after that first orgasm is a new body with different likes and dislikes. And start from scratch to figure out what feels good.

On your journey, here are a couple rules of thumb:

Approach Orgasm 1 Recovery Rebuild Orgasm 2 Recovery Orgasm 3

Recovery

The moment after orgasm, the clit is so sensitive that touching it can actually be painful (more on this below).

Rebuild

After the oversensitivity dissipates, what often feels best is a modified version of what worked to get to the first orgasm (more on this below).

The Recovery Period Right After Orgasm

53% of women prefer going back to what felt best at the very beginning, directly after orgasm

Think of the period right after the orgasm as a cool-down. For the majority of women, this means either taking a complete break for 10 seconds to a minute, or continuing with touch that’s:

See Some Recovery Motions
  • Away from the clit
  • More diffuse pressure as opposed to focused rubbing
  • Less pressure

Rewinding: Half of all women who have multiple orgasms say that, right after the first orgasm, it’s best to go back to what felt best during the initial warm up. This tends to be touch that’s not on the clit at all. Most popular is gentle up and down strokes on and between the lips, bringing wetness up from the opening and gently spreading it around, but not actually touching the clit.

Palm Hug: Many women swear by gentle, diffuse pressure with the entire hand. It’s sort of like giving the entire area a hug. The key is not stimulating or rubbing, just holding the cupped hand, mouth, leg or penis in place with some gentle pressure until the recovery has passed.

Rebuilding the Second Orgasm

After the super-sensitivity has passed, you may need a different kind of touch to build pleasure again. Start with the things that worked during the first orgasm, but alter them with...

Immediate Multiples (The Lucky Few)

A small percentage of women enjoy multiple orgasms right after the first orgasm.

Pushing Through: One in seven women can continue after the first orgasm with the exact same motion that brought the first orgasm; oversensitivity isn’t a problem. These are women who usually know at a young age that they can have multiple orgasms, because it’s relatively easy for them. They just keep going and there’s no need for any special doubling techniques.

Quick Layering: Some women do have oversensitivity after the first orgasm, but can have a follow-on orgasm seconds after the first by switching to a much more indirect but fast stimulation and skipping the rebuilding motion.

These tend to work best through surrounding skin (See Layering) so that more layers of the hood skin are protecting the clit. One popular technique is to use the outer lips as a protective layer in a “clit sandwich,” where you squeeze to put pressure on the clit. Because there is so much soft skin protecting the actual oversensitive clit, some women can achieve an immediate orgasm right after the first.

Helpful Guidelines

  • Not for Everybody. According to the data, most women just can’t reach multiple orgasms. And partners pressuring them to try can result in hurt feelings and disappointment. Best to approach multiples as a fun experiment with no pressure.
  • Share Your Discoveries. Many women discover their ways to reach second orgasm while masturbating, and then share them with their partner.
  • Many Roads. As mentioned above, there’s no one “right” way to do this. Likely there are many combinations that will or won’t work on different days. Have lots of patience and enjoy the discovery.

Most Common Challenges

  • Start Over. Too much stimulation right after the orgasm can be painful. When in doubt, start with recovery motions and stay away from the clit!
  • Slipping Back. When a rebuild motion starts to feel good, it’s easy to get swept up in the moment and switch to the motions that usually feel good before the first orgasm, forgetting that the body is so much more sensitive.
